  • What spray drone do you use?
    We currently utilize the DJI Agras T40 Spray drone. This is the most widely used spray drone in the US.
  • How big is a spray drone?
    The DJI T40 in an unfolded position measures approximately 9' x 10' x 2.5'. In a folded position it measures about 3.5' x 2.5' x 2.75'.
  • How much does a spray drone weigh?
    A DJI T40 weighs ~83 lbs without a battery, ~110 lbs with a battery, ~200 lbs with a full liquid tank, and 220 lbs with a full dry spreader.
  • What is the capacity of a spray drone?
    The max capacity is 10.5 gallons of liquid and 110 lbs of dry product.
  • How wide can a drone spray?
    DJI T40 is capable spraying up to 32-34 feet, depending on factors such as wind and the adjuvants used to reduce drift.
  • How fast does a spray drone fly?
    The DJI T40 has a max flight speed of 32.8 fps which converts to ~22 mph.
  • How many acres can a drone spray on a tank fill?
    A DJI T40 spraying at 2 gpa can cover 5 acres on a tank fill.
  • How do you fly the drone going through the field?
    The drone flies fully autonomously. Sometimes the drone is manually landed and taken off but most of the time it is flying without any manual control.
  • How long does a battery last when spraying or spreading?
    A full battery will last between 7-8 minutes while completing a task.
  • How long does a battery last with an empty tank?
    At a hover a full battery can last up to 18 min with an empty tank.
  • What is the max wind speed a drone can fly in?
    The max wind speed is between 13-15 mph.
  • What kind of nozzles does a spray drone use?
    The DJI T40 spray drone utilizes two rotary atomizer nozzle.
  • What droplet size does a spray drone spray?
    The droplet size is easily changed with the rotary atomizer nozzles ranging from 50-300 μm.
  • How many batteries do you need for one spray drone?
    3 batteries is the minimum required to operate non-stop while 4 is preferred.
  • How do you charge batteries while spraying a field?
    We mount a generator on our trailer in order to constantly charge batteries and run pumps, etc.
  • What licensing do you need to be a spray drone pilot?
    Each pilot needs a Part 107 license, a 3rd class medical exam, and a state pesticide aerial applicator license.
  • What licensing is required to operate a spray drone business?
    As a business we carry a 44807 Heavy Drone Exemption and a Part 137 Operators Certificate.
  • What type of insurance is required?
    We carry chemical liability insurance as well as insurance for our spray drones and other equipment.
  • What is required for record keeping?
    For record keeping we have to comply with the requirements from the FAA as well as our state pesticide record keeping regulations.
  • What do we use for record keeping?
    We use a software called Drone Logbook Ag to comply with FAA and Illinois pesticide requirements.
